We can spend lots of mental energy chewing over things which have happened in the past, and going over stories about what we predict in the future. Developing Mindfulness is about practicing bringing our mind right into the present moment, and if we find difficulty there, being able to manage it without trying to struggle or fight with it.

We do this in our courses by guiding participants in different meditations (meditation simply means paying attention) such as observing thoughts, body sensations and breathing, and by discussing how these ideas can be used practically in day to day life. Being aware also helps us notice signs of stress or anxiety earlier and helps us deal with them better.

We run both Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses at Wandsworth IAPT. The courses are similar.

Week one is a taster session for participants to meet the facilitators, try out some of the practices, and decide if the course is for them. All our facilitators have completed accredited Mindfulness training programmes.
